New B M W 1 series 5 door

The exterior of the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
The BMW 1 Series has character. Its redesigned and enlarged front air inlets allow the engine to breathe deeply. The finishers of the double headlights are more contoured; the optional fog lights are now rectangular and even more distinctly shaped. The entire front mirrors the active and agile lines of the side, giving an impression of elegance and power thanks to the discreet refinements. The dominance of the horizontal lines also lends the rear a more dynamic appearance. The distinct flow of the rear apron continues the lateral lines of the side skirts and is in perfect harmony with the front spoiler.
The interior of the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
The cockpit is dominated by broadly stretched lines and surfaces. The lower section of the instrument panel has been redesigned in the same colour as the interior. Stressing the horizontal arrangement of the interior, the new shape imparts a generous feeling of spaciousness. Soft radii and blended surfaces help to integrate the centre console with its controls for entertainment and air-conditioning functions harmoniously into the instrument panel. Functional detailed solutions such as the new glove compartment add the finishing touches to the overall harmonious concept.

The straight six-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 130i.
The largest engine in the BMW 1 Series range features Valvetronic fully variable valve control for an optimum power curve. This silky smooth six is the most powerful engine in the 1 Series range, delivering 190 kW (258 hp). With a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h, it's the sportiest way to enjoy the BMW 1 Series. There's no holding the BMW 130i back, unless it's regarding fuel consumption, that is.
The four-cylinder petrol enginesin the BMW 116i, 118i and 120i.
On average, you blink about 10 times a minute. In this time, you miss 2,000 separate fuel injections supplying as little as 2 mg of fuel each time. This exceptional level of precision is made possible by the positioning of the piezo injectors which are located centrally between the valves. The engines in the BMW 116i, 118i and 120i with the Auto Start Stop function incorporate this cutting-edge technology allowing the car to operate in lean-burn mode for far longer and at far higher revs. This leads to improved efficiency, which in turn leads to better performance. Better performance from less fuel - what BMW EfficientDynamics is all about.
The four-cylinder diesel engine inthe BMW 116d, 118d, 120d and 123d.
Outstandingly responsive at low revs, BMW's diesel engines offer exceptional torque and performance. With third-generation common rail injection, the diesel engines deliver exceptional performance with unbeatable fuel consumption levels (e.g. up to 150 kW/204 hp capacity and 5.2 l/100 km for the BMW 123d). Thanks to the engine block now being made solely of aluminium, weight is reduced by an enormous 20 kg. Furthermore, the engines are fitted with Brake Energy Regeneration and the Auto Start Stop function as standard, and also come with a particle filter and a fuel guard.

The six-speed transmission in the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
Smooth and responsive, the 6-speed manual transmissions in BMW 1 Series models make for dynamic driving at its best. Their standout features are the short-throw shifts, perfect ratios and optimum exploitation of torque. The optional 6-speed automatic transmission Steptronic, which can be operated manually, delivers smooth driving with exceptional reaction speed combining instant power when pulling out and reduced fuel consumption at high speeds.

Active Steering in the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
The optional Active Steering system adjusts the steering ratio to the car's speed - for greater driving comfort, faithful cornering and maximum agility. At low speeds, for example, it requires just two turns of the wheel from lock to lock. At higher speeds, it then increases the steering ratio to guarantee flawless forward progress. Active Steering also countersteers automatically if the BMW 1 Series threatens to skid when cornering or braking.

Rear-wheel drive on the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
The rear-wheel drive on the BMW 1 Series imparts dynamic energy to every manoeuvre and plays a significant role in obtaining an ideal body weight distribution. The result? Incomparable agility, excellent handling and precision steering. Or, to put it another way: pure driving pleasure.

The aluminium front axle on the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
Vehicles with front-wheel drive tend to have more weight on the front axle than the rear and as a result are liable to suffer from understeer when cornering at speed. Handling becomes difficult and the car tends to slide towards the outside of the bend. For this reason, weight distribution in the BMW 1 Series has been almost perfectly balanced between both axles. This improves handling and is the main reason why it is able to hold its line even in the fastest of bends.

Multi-link rear suspension on the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
Contributing significantly to the excellent equilibrium of the BMW 1 Series, the multi-link rear suspension has a complex structure that maximises agility by ensuring that wheel position is always spot on. It lets the BMW 1 Series express its dynamic nature while always ensuring uncompromising passenger comfort.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) on the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
For greater safety and for greater driving pleasure: Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), an electronic chassis control system, is a standard feature on the BMW 1 Series. It constantly monitors the behaviour of the chassis and wheels. When it detects the threat of traction loss, it reduces drive power and applies precisely measured braking pressure to individual wheels. Skidding is prevented before it can start, as within milliseconds, the BMW 1 Series is stabilised. At the touch of a button, Dynamic Traction Control can also be activated for extra traction and more surefooted progress on difficult surfaces.

BMW EfficientDynamics in the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
Behind BMW EfficientDynamics lies a package of intelligent features which considerably reduce emissions and improve fuel consumption while, at the same time, boosting performance. They ensure that the new BMW 1 Series sets new standards in terms of the efficiency and economy of its engine: it is one of the first BMWs to offer the new Auto Start Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration and a host of drivetrain modifications. Together, they solve the “power vs. fuel consumption” dilemma, in a way that’s never been seen before.

Safety & other features

Run-flat tyres on the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
Even after a complete loss of tyre pressure, optional run-flat tyres (standard equipment for the BMW 130i and 123d) retain their shape and remain firmly attached to the rim. Even at higher speeds, the BMW 1 Series remains stable and precisely controllable. The car can be driven for up to 150 km at 80 km/h following loss of tyre pressure - or even longer in the case of a slow puncture. The need for a spare tyre is eliminated.

BMW 1 Series (five-door): Stiff bodyshell.
In an impact situation, the BMW 1 Series bodyshell proves to be unyielding. Special reinforcements in the front and sides of the body and around the occupant cell protect the driver and passengers effectively. The bumpers can completely absorb the forces of impacts at speeds below 4 km/h, leaving the body undamaged. The highly rigid bodyshell also serves to ensure the BMW 1 Series handles with razor-sharp precision and breathtaking agility.

The passive safety system in the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
The safety electronics of the BMW 1 Series react to serious situations with amazing speed. Crash sensors react immediately, deploying the belt force tensioners and the airbag system comprising six airbags (driver and front passenger airbag, head airbags for front and rear and side airbags integrated in the front seat backrests) at the right time and to exactly the right degree.

Daytime running lights on the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
The daytime running lights are integrated in the corona rings of the headlights and are brighter than the parking lights. Corona rings are a classic BMW design feature and the light they provide in the daytime lends the 1 Series an unmistakable presence as well as contributing to increased safety. Optional bi-xenon headlights required.

Navigation systems with iDrive in the BMW 1 Series (five-door).
The optional navigation systems in the BMW 1 Series are operated simply and effectively via the iDrive system. Via the Controller, this intuitive system is also used to operate a range of other functions such as cabin climate control and the entertainment and communication options, including CDs, the radio and the telephone. The four most frequently used controls, CD, radio, telephone and navigation system, can be operated using the direct selection buttons. The navigation system Professional's anti-glare, high-resolution display (8.8 inches) is optimally situated above the central console. And the three-dimensional map display and photo-realistic points of interest make the navigation system not only a helpful assistant but also a pleasure to use.

B M W 135 i 1series
In a continuous effort to improve the 1-Series, BMW announced at the Detroit motor show that it’s latest TwinPower twin-scroll turbo engine will find its way into the 1-Series range topper – the 135i.
Coded the N55, the new single-turbo straight-six engine replaces the current twin-turbo unit (N54) in the current 1-Series. The N55 single turbo powerplant made its debut in the 5-Series GT last year.
Contrary to believe, the single turbo unit won’t see any drop or even increase in power, in fact, like the old engine, the new one produces 302hp and 295lb-ft or torque.
There could be a reason to keep the 135i in the 300hp region, as we revealed in late ‘09, BMW’s M division boss Kay Segler is keen to introduce an M version of the 1-Series and it could happpen as early as 2011. So keeping the 135i around the 300hp gives it a little more room to play around with, say 360hp for the M1? If that’s what they finally decide to call it.
The N55-powered 135i models will also be offered with BMW’s 7-speed DCT twin-clutch gearbox as an option.

B M W 1 series (3 door)
The BMW 1 Series (E81/E87 and E82/E88 models) is a compact car produced by the German automaker BMW since 2004. The 1 Series is the only vehicle in its class featuring rear-wheeel drive, 50:50 weight balance, a longitudinally-mounted engine and an advanced aluminum multilink suspension. It is currently BMW's second best-selling automobile, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the total sales in 2008.
The exterior of the BMW 1 Series (three door).
The side profile of the BMW 1 Series (three-door) is pure racing car. The elongated doors and frameless windows maximise the car’s sporting appeal while the passenger compartment is set far back, drawing the eye immediately to the rear axle. The car’s more dramatic side skirts further underline its dynamism, inviting you to open the door and take a seat.
The interior of the BMW 1 Series (three door).
The interior of the BMW 1 Series (three-door) recalls the look of a racing car cockpit. The steering wheel and gearstick sit perfectly in the hand and ensure gear changes and steering are as thrillingly precise and direct. The quality-focused approach to design extends to even the smallest details. The larger glove compartment offers increased storage options while the dashboard is clearly laid out. What’s more, all functions can be operated intuitively, leaving the driver free to concentrate on the important things - like enjoying the ride.

Wheels and tyres on the BMW 1 Series (three-door).
The sporting character of the BMW 1 Series is expressed in its range of wheel rims. With the exception of the BMW 130i and 123d, all BMW 1 Series models are equipped with 16-inch steel wheels as standard. The six-cylinder petrol model and the strongest diesel version come with a 17-inch light alloy spoke as standard. In total, nine different wheel rims between 16 and 18 inches are available for the BMW 1 Series.

Paint finishes on the BMW 1 Series (three-door).
The BMW 1 Series is available in 12 paint finishes, ranging from Alpine White non-metallic to Sapphire Black metallic. Choose from classics such as Titanium Silver metallic or Carmine Red non-metallic or contemporary shades such as Patagonia Green metallic or Montego Blue metallic. Each paint finish lends the BMW 1 Series its own individual character, and in combination with the upholstery and interior colour options, few BMW 1 Series are the same.

Park Distance Control (PDC) on the BMW 1 Series (three-door).
Take the stress out of parking. The optional Park Distance Control (PDC) makes it easier to park and manoeuvre in narrow spaces. Ultrasound sensors measure the distance between your 1 Series and any nearby object that might obstruct it. Having detected an obstacle, your vehicle sounds a warning signal. A visual signal is also displayed on the navigation system's monitor.

Flexible stowage space in the BMW 1 Series (three-door).
The BMW 1 Series might be compact, but it's got room for all your requirements. Its rear-seat backrest can fold down 60:40, and the flexible boot provides up to 1,150 litres of stowage space.

Exterior mirror package for the BMW 1 Series (three-door).
True perfection is revealed by the details. The wing mirrors can be adjusted electronically at the touch of a button and, like the windscreen wiper jets, they are heated. Included in the exterior mirror package are the automatic threshold and mirror memory systems.

M sports package for the BMW 1 Series (three-door).
Dynamics made visible: the M sports package. The special aerodynamics package, M alloy wheels and high-gloss Shadow Line underline the dynamic looks of the BMW 1 Series. Choose from five paint finishes and two wheel rims. The M sports package also includes front sports seats in an exclusive cloth/Sensatec Flashpoint combination, Glacier Silver aluminium interior trims, Anthracite BMW Individual roof liner, and the M leather steering wheel.

BMW roof box 460 for the BMW 1 Series (three-door).
Room for ideas: the BMW roof box 460 is perfect for adding extra storage space to your BMW 1 Series. Comfortable loading is possible from either side thanks to an innovative opening system. The roof box, which is ideal for transporting winter sports equipment, comes with theft-resistant, triple central locking on both sides.

Snowy OWL.....
The ghost like snowy owl has unmistakable white plumage that echoes its Arctic origins.
These large owls breed on the Arctic tundra, where females lay a clutch of 3 to 11 eggs. Clutch size depends upon the availability of food, and in particularly lean times a usually monogamous pair of owls may not breed at all. Parents are territorial and will defend their nests against all comers—even wolves.
Young owls, especially males, get whiter as they get older. Females are darker than males, with dusky spotting, and never become totally white. Some elderly males do become completely white, though many retain small flecks of dusky plumage.
The snowy owl is a patient hunter that perches and waits to identify its prey before soaring off in pursuit. Snowy owls have keen eyesight and great hearing, which can help them find prey that is invisible under thick vegetation or snowcover. The owls deftly snatch their quarry with their sharp talons.
A snowy owl's preferred meal is lemmings—many lemmings. An adult may eat more than 1,600 lemmings a year, or three to five every day. The birds supplement their diet with rabbits, rodents, birds, and fish.
These magnificent owls sometimes remain year-round in their northern breeding grounds, but they are frequent migrants to Canada, the northern United States, Europe, and Asia. Lemming availability may determine the extent of southern migration, when owls take up summer residence on open fields, marshes, and beaches.

Tiger cooling off

A camera trap snapped this picture of a tiger cooling off in a watering hole in Bandhavgarh National Park, India. Consisting of an unmanned camera set on auto and tripped by an animal crossing an infrared beam, camera traps allow wildlife experts and photographers to track numbers of endangered species and get pictures of elusive animals at close range.
